Global Accelerator Programme (life sciences, biotech, med-tech, pharma, digital health, healthcare, cleantech and advanced engineering), looking to hone their business skills, (content to fit the specs of the speakers), in the areas of financing, refining a business plan and protecting ideas

About the skills:

IP for Startups: Thomas Prock from Marks&Clerk will go over the different forms of protection that are available (patents, trademarks, copyright, designs, etc.) and explain how they can be used to secure value in a business and obtain investment.

How to Pitch: Veronique Rapetti from New entrepreneurs foundation will talk about the best ways to pitch an idea or business in front of judges and/or investors.

About the course presenters:

Thomas Prock is an associate at Marks&Clerk Ltd.

Thomas advises clients in the high tech field, in particular, in the electronics sector on internet related subject matter and computer-implemented inventions. Thomas is moreover active in protecting inventions in the Cleantech and medical device field.

He has worked on patent applications relating to non-volatile semiconductor storage devices, data processing and exchange, mobile telecommunications, smart grid related inventions, waste reduction and medical imaging, to name a few. Thomas also has experience in contentious related matters, including European oppositions and litigation.

Thomas graduated with a Diploma in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Applied Science in Ulm (Germany) and went on to obtain his PhD from the Institute of Cancer Research, where he investigated the interaction between radio frequency electromagnetic fields and conducting tissue, with particular emphasis on its application to the design of phased array resonators.

Having qualified as a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney in 2007, in 2014 Thomas became one of the few professionals to also qualify as a Patentanwalt (German Patent Attorney).

In the LMG Life Sciences Guide 2014, Thomas is listed as a ‘Life Sciences Star’ for his work in the medical devices area. He is also commended in the inaugural Who's Who Legal - Patent Agents, which refers to him as a “definite inclusion on any list”.

Veronique Rapetti is the Programme Director – Learning & Partnerships at New entrepreneurs foundation.

Véronique is an experienced Strategy and Learning and Development executive with over 20 years of experience in launching and growing training businesses or new ventures as well as building strong and long lasting business relationships at all levels.

Her experience was gained in various sectors including Financial and Professional Services, Management Consultancy, Pharmaceutical, Media & Entertainment, Property, Chemical, Energy.

Prior to joining the new Entrepreneurs Foundation, Véronique was a Strategy and Learning consultant working with Top 500 organisations to develop, design and implement people engagement strategies and innovative learning programmes. She also worked with SMEs and start-ups: she was instrumental in the launch of the first digital French radio in London, leading all the Marketing & PR activities. She held senior international commercial roles when working for Bloomberg and Moody’s and was heading the training business units at IIR Ltd and Parkwell Management Consultancy.

Véronique holds both a European Masters in Law & Economics from Oxford University and a French Master’s (DEA) in Institutional Economics (with honours) from Aix-En-provence University. She has lived in the UK since 1994 and speaks fluently Italian and French.

In her spare time, and since 2003, Véronique is the President of the Young Chamber of Commerce French-English (Jeune Chambre de Commerce Franco-Britanique- JCCFB). More recently she was elected Vice-President of the Federation of all French Associations in UK (FAFGB). In 2011, she was nominated for the Most Influential French Londoner Awards, in her capacity as President of JCCFB.

These terms and conditions constitute a legally binding agreement between Innovation Forum and the individual registering.

Payment and Confirmation of Booking

  • If an e-mail confirmation has not been received after completing the registration process, please contact ucl@inno-forum.org.
  • Final details will be sent up to seven working days prior to the event, please contact ucl@inno-forum.org if you do not receive event details.
  • Innovation Forum cannot be held responsible for the non-arrival of event information.
  • During the event, please ensure that your attendance is noted each day to avoid being charged the cancellation fee (see below), normally by signing an attendance sheet at registration.

Cancellations and Refunds

General

  • All cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing 3 full working days (Monday – Friday) prior to the start of the event to ucl@inno-forum.org.
  • If the above notification period is not given, or in the event of non-attendance, then the following cancellation fee applies:£25 for a half-day workshop or £50 for 1 or more days - whatever the reason
  • Illness: in the event of non-attendance due to illness, a doctor’s certificate must be provided otherwise the full cancellation fee will be charged.
  • Individuals who withdraw after the start of an event will still be liable for the cancellation fee.
  • Non-attendance for paid events: an individual who has registered and doesn’t turn up for the event will be charged the full course fee, in addition to the cancellation fee as above. This is due to administrative, speaker and refreshment costs incurred by the department and your place could have been allocated to another individual.
  • Attendees are welcome to send a substitute without incurring a charge, provided Innovation Forum is notified in writing (ucl@inno-forum.org) 3 full working days prior to the event.
  • Due to unforeseen circumstances, Innovation Forum reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule an event. In the unlikely event of cancellations, Innovation Forum will refund the full amount of the registration fee (if applicable). However personal expenses incurred by the attendee are non-refundable by Innovation Forum.
    Innovation Forum reserves the right to make changes to the programme, location and/or speakers without prior notice. Such alterations are occasionally necessary due to circumstances beyond the control of Innovation Forum.

  • Businesses and individuals will be contacted directly for payment details if they don’t comply with the cancellation policy.
